GameUp Africa Podcast Launch: Stories Behind African Game Development

GameUp Africa is excited to announce the launch of the GameUp Africa podcast, a new platform dedicated to sharing the stories, insights, and experiences shaping game development across the continent.

For years, our monthly meetups have created space for developers, artists, and creators across the African games ecosystem to learn, share, and connect. Now, we are taking those conversations one step further. The GameUp Africa podcast transforms these moments into a more accessible format, creating a growing library of honest, in-depth conversations with the people building games in Africa today.

Hosted by Dorothy Orina and Ebimo Dan-Asisah, the podcast spotlights developers, artists, producers, founders, and creators across the continent, exploring their journeys, inspirations, challenges, and what it truly takes to build within the African game development ecosystem.

Episode 1 is Now Live

The first episode of the GameUp Africa podcast features Sithe Ncube, Producer at Nyamakop, whose work spans community building, talent development, and game production across Africa.

In this episode, we dive into what it really means to enter and grow within the industry. The conversation explores building talent, breaking barriers, and moving beyond passion projects to create sustainable games.

Sithe brings a wealth of experience to the discussion, from co-founding Ubongo Game Lab to creating Games Plus Girls, documenting over 1,000 African women in games, and producing Relooted at Nyamakop. Her journey reflects both the challenges and possibilities within the ecosystem.

The conversation is thoughtful, honest, and reflective of the realities many creators face but rarely hear discussed openly.
